An Excellent Start to the new Academic Year

Hello Everyone
The start to the new term has been calm and purposeful and all the staff have been impressed by the attitude of the students on both sites and by the smartness of their uniform. Our new timetable of one hour lessons on a one week rotation has also been a big hit with the staff and the students as it has helped organisation around the site and the delivery of lessons. We are determined that this year ‘team Thetford’ will show everyone what the students can achieve and we are already working with our year elevens to ensure their success. We are going to interview every year eleven by the end of September so that they know clearly what their potential is and how to achieve it. We will be starting intervention classes specifically tailored for students so that ‘gaps’ in their subject knowledge and skills can be addressed.
It is lovely to have all of the year sevens together on the one site even if it is a little bit of a crush. They are enjoying their lessons and getting to know one another. We are particularly pleased that the coach company who are transporting some of our year sevens from the South site everyday have commented on their good behaviour and politeness on the bus. We are soon going to be recruiting next year’s year seven at our Open Evening that will be on the 29th of September at 6.30 pm. This will showcase all the work that we have been doing to improve the standards of teaching and learning in the Academy.
The meetings about the new building have continued all summer and the two companies that have been bidding for the contract are nearly at the final presentation stage when a decision about which company to use will be made. I know a lot of parents and neighbours are anxious about the new building and there will be public consultation meetings set up once the company has been decided. We will keep the community and parents informed about this process through letters, newsletters and information on this website.
I am going to be holding two parents focus meetings, one on South Campus and one on North . The evening meeting will be in the library on the South Campus at 6.00 pm on Tuesday 27th of September and the morning meeting will be on Wednesday the 28th of September at 9.00am on the North Campus. There will be more details on the website to follow about the proposed content of the meetings.
