The Academy Curriculum

At The Thetford Academy we follow the National Curriculum. At Key Stage 3, students are taught in groups according to their ability with many enrichment opportunities for students at all levels. Movement between groups is of course possible as progress is made.  Our aim is to inspire students to be the best they can be and make as much progress as they can and wanting to learn for life. Students experience a range of activities and events outside the classroom in the community, local area and further away. Participation in after school activities is an expectation. This is an area the Academy is currently developing.

The Key Stage 4 curriculum provides students with a range of options and pathways to follow. Our aim is to meet each student’s individual need. Great emphasis is placed on the core subjects of English and Maths, to build on the work of Key Stage 3 and ensure students have the skills needed for further study and the world of work. We also place great importance on success in Science and ICT for the same reasons. Students can opt for one of three pathways – the GCSE, vocational courses at West Suffolk or Easton College, ASDAN …the choice is wide and evolving further as our partnerships grow and take shape. This is an exciting time for the Thetford Academy Curriculum not least as we look to expand the sixth form provision through progression of new 14 – 16 courses to higher levels at 16 – 19.
