Charities – Childline
The students of Discovery House are keen to discover new possibilities within themselves and the world around them.
As a house we are committed to helping ourselves and others discover and fulfil our true potential. We believe in putting others first, an ethos which is reflected in our involvement with charitable work. Our chosen Charity is Childline and, in the run up to Christmas, Discovery students will also be helping disadvantaged children across the world by supporting the Samaritans Purse Christmas Shoe Box Appeal.
Student Voice is at the heart of everything we do as a house. Fostering strong leadership and life skills in Discovery students is key, with student feedback continually solicited and valued. Discovery House sees positive involvement in the local community as of great importance and we are planning to undertake a number of initiatives whereby our students will give something back to the community, helping strengthen the relationship between the Academy and those around it.
Our students are discovering the benefits of the house tutoring system, which allows them to meet and learn from a wide variety of staff members and also other students from across a broad age range. In addition to operating an ‘open door’ policy whereby students are encouraged to seek guidance from staff, Discovery House promotes the idea of students supporting and encouraging each other on a day to day basis.
Looking ahead, this half term we are fully committed to moving up the leader board and improving our ranking by increasing the number of achievement and House points we gain. Discovery students are also looking forward to taking part in forthcoming House competitions.
